How to season a cast iron skillet

A well-seasoned skillet is close to nonstick and lasts for generations. Our skillets come pre-seasoned, but a few extra coats make a difference.

  1. Wash the skillet with hot water and dry it completely on the stovetop.
  2. Rub a very thin layer of flaxseed or vegetable oil over every surface, then wipe off as much as you can.
  3. Bake it upside down at 450 °F for one hour and let it cool in the oven.
  4. Repeat two or three times.
